Blues significa triste. La vida de Billie Holiday tuvo mucho de eso. Nacida como Eleanora Gough Harris, tuvo que lidiar con pobreza, abandono paterno y una temprana violación a los diez años. Además los hombres que eligió se aprovecharon y abusaron de ella. También tuvo relaciones con seres de su mismo sexo como la actriz Tallulah Bankhead. Las drogas (heroína) hicieron que el hígado de Lady Day explotara a la edad de 44 años, causándole la muerte.
